18ct Gold, Lotus Flower Torque Bangle

An 18ct yellow gold lotus flower torque bangle with green and blue enamel petals, handmade by Ogden of Harrogate.

Our Lotus Collection commemorates a piece of Ogden of Harrogate history. As well as being a jeweller our founder, James R Ogden, was an Egyptologist and Jewellery Historian, and enjoyed the title of Advising Goldsmith to the British Museum. In 1922 he was asked by Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon to value the gold work in Tutankhamun's tomb.

In ancient Egypt the Lotus flower represented rebirth, and was often seen represented in the tombs of the ancient pharaohs.

According to the Daily Express on March 21st, 1931, J.R.O.’s popular lectures on Ancient Egypt, the Near East and Greece had by then raised over forty thousand pounds for charity - a remarkable sum of money in those days!
